SACRAMENTAL INFO

Welcome to the Sacramental Records section of the Archives Website.  Sacramental Records refers to the Catholic Sacraments of Baptism, First Communion, Confirmation and Marriage. While not a Sacrament, the Church also keeps a record of Catholic funerals.  The Sacramental Books are an important resource for both the Church and the individual Catholic.  They record the sacramental journey of the members of the Catholic Church. Our office assists parish staffs to maintain the sacramental books in the parishes through policy, training and consultation.

HOW DO I OBTAIN A NEW SACRAMENTAL CERTIFICATE?

  • Contact the parish where the sacrament was celebrated. Be prepared with the name of the person, date of birth, and the names of the parents, including the mother’s maiden name.  The parish staff will do the research and prepare a new sacramental certificate.

  • Once you receive a new sacramental certificate, make several copies of the certificate. Put the original certificate in a secure location, such as a safe or security deposit box.

  • If you are uncertain as to the parish where the sacrament was received, begin by contact your family for their recollections on the Sacrament and looking for family history that will help your search. An important fact is the location the family was living at the time of the sacrament.

  • Another path to finding a parish, is to contact the parishes in the area where the family was living at the time of the sacrament.  You can do that by going to the Diocesan website. A list of open parishes by city will open in a new window, click on the parish and the next page will have contact information.

  • If you need a sacramental certificate from a closed parish, contact the Archives Office (909-475-5397).  For a list of the closed parishes in the Diocese, CLICK HERE

Please complete the Research Request Form found HERE and return it to the Archive Office.

  • For a sacrament celebrated at a military base in the Diocese, contact the Military Archdiocese at www.milarch.org.
